THREE PHASED BREAKFAST PROGRAM APPROACH

Approach

The ripple effect caused by feeding hungry schoolchildren is simply breathtaking. It alleviates hunger & wasting among children. Improves academic performance and motivates teachers to put in their best. It increases enrollments and attendance. It also brings quality to the overall efforts of the govt and amplifies the impact of the govt spends on nutrition programs.

The Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust, a registered Indian charity, provides meals to needy school going children. The Annapoorna Breakfast Programme has provided 50 million meals to date. Currently the program feeds 400,000 children every morning at school, five days per week across 4800+ Govt Schools in 17 States and 3 Union Territories.
The Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust, a registered Indian charity, provides meals to needy school going children. The Annapoorna Breakfast Programme has provided 50 million meals to date. Currently the program feeds 400,000 children every morning at school, five days per week across 4800+ Govt Schools in 17 States and 3 Union Territories.
Annapoorna Trust has created a three-phase program to end hunger in poverty-stricken schoolchildren: first is the introduction of SaiSure Health Mix , next is to introduce cooked meals twice a week, and ultimately daily hot meals. This is exemplified by Annapoorna Trust’s strategic multiphase approach.

BREAKFAST PHASE ONE – ANNAPOORNA SAISURE HEALTH MIX

In few states of India, impoverished children receive a government-provided glass of milk for breakfast at school. Breakfast Phase One leverages that milk program. With Annapoorna SaiSure Mix, a simple glass of milk instantly becomes a life-sustaining meal providing half of minimum daily requirements for nutrition. SaiSure is an unique and much needed multi nutrient supplement programme for children offered totally free of cost. The composition is conceived keeping the demands of vital nutrients for normal progeny and potential future adult healthy life. The distinct formulas are developed with highest medical standards and safety as the priority, with scientific inputs from a panel of specialist doctors, nutritionists and experts in public health. The formulations have macro and micro nutrients essential for the growth, development and healthy life. Breakfast Phase One is dramatically improving outcomes at schools and reaching to over 100,000 deserving and needy rural school children. This project is aiming to serve 300,000 school children in the year 2019.

BREAKFAST PHASE TWO – INTRODUCING COOKED MEALS AT SCHOOLS

After serving Annapoorna SaiSure Health Mix at the schools. Annapoorna team starts engaging with the local school staff and village panchayat heads to initiate the thought of providing cooked meals to the children using the kitchens at the schools. Based on readiness and willingness to accept this model, the trust will initiate supplying ingredients needed for preparation of breakfast – two days per week while the other miscellaneous charges are taken up by the village panchayat. SaiSure Health Mix continues to be a part of this programme. This inspires many corporate sponsors and community volunteers to embrace and work together with the trust. Once the community is involved, Breakfast Phase Two will be inline and continues serving the children.
